Retail Travel Consultant

"A Travel Consultant can be a very challenging job by working with deadlines and dealing with many different suppliers, but there is plenty of variety in my work everyday and I never get bored. I help create fabulous memories for people by matching their needs and desires with a holiday destination! When they return and tell me all about it, it gives me great job satisfaction".

What is a Retail Travel Consultant?

A Retail Travel Consultant deals with the general public, arranging leisure or personal travel holidays. Most of the work is done face to face with customers who walk into their offices. The offices are usually located on street fronts with direct public access or in shopping centres.

What does a Retail Consultant do?

A Retail Travel Consultant makes airline reservations, books hotel accommodation, coach tours, car hire, transfers, cruises, day tours and anything that the traveller needs to enjoy their holiday. They often give advice and make suggestions about travel destinations and products.

What does it take to be successful?

They need to have good geographical knowledge of the world and are well travelled. They need to be able to work in a fast paced environment with plenty of deadlines and a good degree of accuracy. Excellent customer service skills and a love of helping people (as sometimes the traveller doesn’t have any idea where they want to go) is a must. They will also need a good memory to be able to remember detailed product information about many destinations.
