What is a Business Development Manager?

A Business Development Manager works on gaining new clients/customers for which to sell their product to whilst maintaining their existing customers and building those relationships.

What does a Business Development Manager do?

They call on new customers/clients and explain their product or service in order to gain new business. They also maintain the existing clients by regularly visiting them and ensuring they are happy with the product or service they are receiving. They will negotiate special rates and agreements with various company groups.

What does it take to be successful?

Excellent presentation skills, the ability to work alone, good communication and negotiation skills. A professional but likable personality that people warm to. They need to be goal orientated and self motivated.
